Please note that the state of emergency declared in Yukon on March 27, 2020 in response to COVID-19 ended at 11:59 p.m. on August 25, 2021.  

On May 1, 2020 the Government of Yukon approved the Civil Emergency Measures Limitation Periods and Legislated Time Periods (COVID-19) Order which suspended certain statutory limitation periods and time periods during the state of emergency.  Please find attached for your information a copy of Ministerial Order 2020/25.

As the state of emergency has ended, limitation dates and time periods suspended by Ministerial Order 2020/25 will no longer be suspended and will recommence as set out in the attached Ministerial Order.  In particular, we draw your attention to Section 2 of the Order which states:

               Suspension of limitation periods for civil and family matters

           2(1)      No limitation period established in a provision of a Yukon law for bringing a civil or family action, appeal or proceeding in a court expires during the state of emergency or during the 30 day period immediately after the termination of the state of emergency.

           (2)        A limitation period that would have expired but for the operation of subsection (1) is extended and expires on the day that is 90 days after the termination of the state of emergency.

           (3)        For greater certainty, subsection (1) doe not apply to any time limits established in the rules of court.
